Columbia Craigslist
I know, I know. I’ve been neglecting this blog. Who knows what we’ve missed in the past few weeks? But I will try to make up for it with this extra-long post and get back into things as we move into holiday season.
Complete Danish Dining Room Set. Includes 8 chairs, a breakfront (hutch), buffet with glass on top, and a table with three leaves and protective covers. Nice, and just in time for the holidays. I like the detail on the back of the chairs.
$500 in Boonville. Here’s the link: Complete Dining Room Set.
Vintage 50s Hotpoint Fridge. In working condition.
$200 in Jefferson City. Here’s the link: Vintage 50′s Hotpoint Fridge.
1950s Frigidaire Electric Stove. Working condition.
$300 in Perry, Missouri. Here’s the link: 1950s Frigidaire Electric Stove.
Formica Table. Chrome and formica kitchen table with leaf included. Seller says it’s in excellent condition.
$45 in Sturgeon (20 minutes north of Columbia). Here’s the link: 50′s Dining Table.
Danish Chairs. Burnt orange fabric with minor wear and tear, says the seller. You could have these reupholstered. You could even do it yourself if you were so inclined. I like the legs and the tufting. Seller says that they swivel and rock.
$50 in Columbia. Here’s the link: Burnt Orange Swivel Rockers.
Wicker Fan Chair. I love these, but the evidence of my love is well-documented.
$25 in Centralia (about 20 minutes northeast of Columbia). Here’s the link: High Back Wicker Chair.
Three Piece Rattan Settee. I really like this. Made in the Philippines in the late 1940s with woven seat, nice condition. No cushions, but they should not be too expensive to replace.
$95 in Columbia. Here’s the link: 1940s Rattan Set.
Ashtray Stands. The seller has a couple more in the ad, but these I liked. $30 for the chrome one and $25 for the brown ceramic with the wire frame.
In Jefferson City. Here’s the link: Vintage Ashtray Stands.
AMI Jukebox. Good condition and works. Plays 78 RPM records. Weighs 238 lbs.
$800 in Moberly (30 minutes north of Columbia). Here’s the link: AMI Jukebox.
Bell & Howard AutoLoad 8mm Projector. The ad does not say if it works.
$25 in Boonville. Here’s the link: Bell & Howell Movie Projector.
Four Mid-Century Chairs. Black leather seats and backs, and the seller says they’re in excellent shape. The price still seems a bit high to me.
$325 in Columbia. Here’s the link: Four mid-century Danish chairs.
Columbia Craigslist (45 Minutes Away)
Heywood Wakefield Bedroom Suite. Seller says that the dresser is in mint condition and the other pieces need some work. A dresser, vanity (without mirror), headboard (looks like a twin size), and an end table are included, which means this is actually a reasonable deal. Except that I am not convinced that that little end table/nightstand is true HeyWake. I am searching for it and no dice so far.
$850 in Harrisburg (about forty-five minutes northwest of Columbia). Here’s the link: Art Deco 4 pieces Bedroom Suite.
Couch. This looks vintage to me with that tufting in the back, and the seller says it is in good condition with no rips or stains or smells. But it looks like there is some wear. I like it, but of course this is the only photo provided. It might not be that great from another angle. Check it out in person.
$30 in Mexico, Missouri (about forty-five minutes northeast of Columbia). Here’s the link: Couch.

I hope you are having a great summer! Mad Men started last night (and if you like vintage modern, you should be watching Mad Men). I am busy with my other pet projects, and kind of startled to realize that it’s already the last week of July. How did that happen? I have a couple of things that I want to do for this blog this summer, but we’ll see if I manage to get ‘em done. In the meantime, let’s try to catch up with local Craigslist!
Vintage Couch. Kind of Hollywood Regency, which I think blends very well with vintage modern. I also love this color. The catch is that the seller recently had fleas in the house, and thinks this is a reasonably compromised price. That’s up to you. Seller has had it cleaned and sprayed.
$75 in Columbia. Here’s the link: 1970s Vintage Couch.
Corner Table. Seller says it’s real wood and authentic, but needs refinishing. The price is decent and I like it. Get it!
$10 in Salisbury (about an hour northwest of Columbia). Here’s the link: Retro end/corner table.
Black Leather Bar Stools. Seller has three of them. I like this style. I know it’s very 70s, but I think it works for vintage modern and isn’t your usual vinyl and chrome soda fountain thing, you know? But I don’t have a bar.
$20 in Columbia. Here’s the link: 3 Barstools.
Whiskey Barrel Chairs. Here we go again! I’ve posted whiskey barrel furniture twice before, and both times it was a hit. I still get emails about those other posts, so let’s be clear: I’m posting a link to the Craigslist ad. I am not personally selling them (or anything). (And if you know anyone who has some of these to sell, tell them to investigate all options, because there are clearly many buyers out there for vintage whiskey barrel furniture, and some willing to pay for international shipping.)
$100 in Russellville (30 minutes west of Jefferson City). Here’s the link: Retro Swivel Whiskey Barrel Chairs.
Vintage GE Hotpoint Fridge. Working condition. All original pieces including shelves, racks, and compartments.
$250 in Jefferson City. Here’s the link: Vintage 50s Hotpoint Fridge.
Executair Travel Bar. These aren’t that rare, even in mint condition, and this price is about what you’d pay if you saw one of them at a nearby antique mall. They are pretty cool, and if you know a Mad Men fan who has a birthday coming up, one of these (stocked) might make somebody happy (in more than one way).
$30 in Centralia (20 miles northeast of Columbia). Here’s the link: Executair 707- The Original Travel Bar
Kansas City Craigslist
Brown Leather Swivel Chair. Nice condition.
$15 in Lenexa. Here’s the link: Vintage Mid-Century Modern Chair.
Naugahyde Couch. Made from the hide of the great American Nauga. It is probably in better shape than it looks, though the color is tricky. Still, the price is nice.
$25 in Kansas City. Here’s the link: Naugahyde Couch.
Barrel Chairs. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. With the diamond pattern? And the whiskey barrel shape? And there are four of them? They come with some kind of game table. They belong in your rec room. You would have all sorts of parties with these. They are that kind of awesome. Invite me over to lose at a poker game, and maybe you’ll earn enough off me to offset the steep price here.
$350 in Mission, KS. Here’s the link: Retro Whiskey Barrel Chairs.
St. Louis Craigslist
It might be bitterly cold through Saturday, but temperatures on Sunday should rise to a balmy high in the mid-20s. What should you do with such a warm weekend day? You should drive to St. Louis and pick up your new gold sofa!
Gold Sofa. Okay, so $800. But it’s gold. And you have always wanted a gold sofa.
$800 in St. Louis. Here’s the link: Retro Sofa.
Storage Unit/End Table. They suggest that it could be used as a TV stand, but that would depend on the size and age of your current TV, I think. Make sure it can support it, especially if you have other equipment too. But it’s cute and I like the detail.
$50 in the Warrenton/O’Fallon/Wentzville area. Here’s the link: 1950s Vintage Wood TV Stand.
Matching Loveseats. Kidney shaped in orange velour. What are you waiting for? Honestly, these look pretty comfortable. I’m not sure I understand the best way to arrange them, but it looks like the other piece is a corner piece. The price seems high, but if the fabric is in good shape, it might be worth it. It costs a lot to get a couch reupholstered (and I speak from experience).
$300 in O’Fallon. Here’s the link: Mid century modern love seats.
Dresser. This looks smaller in the picture than I think it is in real life (the seller lists the height at 42″) and I love the detail despite the fact that the veneer is a little beat-up.
$125 in Fenton. Here’s the link: Retro Dresser.
Sofa Set. I love this type of set- it’s so cute. The seller has repaired some of the cat scratch damage.
$200 in St. Louis City. Here’s the link: Mid-Century Long and Low Sofa and Loveseat Set.
Danish Modern Sofa. I love this, too. The upholstery is in nice shape and I like that striped blue color that is typical of this era. Nice.
$225 in Illinois (suburbs, I assume). Here’s the link: Retro Danish Sofa.
Sofa and Chairs in Jefferson City

A green brocade sofa and two beige & gold brocade chairs are available in Jefferson City. I think this style is Hollywood Regency, and it looks pretty cool with mid-century modern pieces. Nice!
$75 for the sofa and $50 each for the chairs in Jefferson City.
Here’s the link: Sofa and 2 chairs.
Long Modern Couch in Columbia
This was posted on late Friday afternoon, so I don’t know if it’s still available.

Giant modern couch! $50 OBO! In Columbia, on West Broadway.
I’m not sure I can determine the age of this couch. Looks like tapered legs but the fabric pattern seems pretty 70s to me. Those arms are fat, but the rest of it is very streamlined. Looks like it comes with matching bolster pillows. Interesting!
The thing about these sofas is that they are often long, longer than normal couches today. If you’re a tall person (or if you have a tall person hanging around your house sometimes), you might find that you can lie down on one of these comfortably. On the other hand, they sometimes feel less solid than newer couches, in case you are not just a tall person but also a wide person. This couch, however, looks like it might be more substantial with those thicker arms.
